6700 Gripe #3

Sometimes you feel like a sync, sometimes you don’t.

At completely unpredictable but far too frequent intervals, cradling my Pocket PC phone does not result in an ActiveSync connection but rather in a pop-up message emanating from my system tray:

USB Device Not Recognized
One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message.

Clicking the message leads to the following most-unhelpful screen. 

According to this thread on pdalive.com and this one on pdaphonehome.com, I’m not the only one with this problem.

I tried the suggestion of turning the phone’s power off before cradling it. That did the trick, at least this time. But others in that forum did not have success with this method, so I’m anticipating more problems down the road. Grrrr.
