DCOM errors after installing WSS 3.0 on SBS

After installing Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on my Small Business Server, I started getting Event ID 10016 in the system log: “The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} to the user NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE SID (S-1-5-20). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.”

Using PaulD’s suggestion at EventID.Net, I searched the registry to figure out exactly what {61738644-F196-11D0-9953-00C04FD919C1} is. It turned out to be the IIS WAMREG Admin Service. I didn’t know exactly what that was, so I Googled it. This led me to a blog post at LeeEvans.org. It turns out Lee experienced the exact same problem, so I felt comfortable implementing his recommended fix.

Remember, if you are going to install WSS 3.0 on SBS, you must follow the whitepaper instructions.

I haven’t had time to dive into WSS 3.0 yet. That’s the problem with these big Microsoft releases. I’m trying to learn about Vista, Office 2007, Office Live, and WSS 3.0 all at the same time. And then I get sidetracked by what turn out to be harmless DCOM errors ….
